GUILTY PLEA - TAMPERING WITH A WITNESS From the Indictment, the Grand Jury Charges: Defendant Frances Sternberg contacted Rabbi BenZion Friedman by telephone and asked to meet with him in person. Rabbi BenZion Friedman is the Rabbi for Scott Temple who previously worked with David E. Sternberg and expected to be a witness against David E. Sternberg in a pending criminal proceeding. Frances Sternberg met with Rabbi BenZion Friedman and stated among other things, "that if the Rabbi's student were to disappear, it would weaken the government's case against her husband." (Emphasis added) In the superseding information, the United States Attorney charges: Frances Sternberg, the defendant herein, did intentionally attempt to harass Scott Temple, a witness against David E. Sternberg in United States v. David E. Sternberg and thereby hindered, delayed, prevented, or dissuaded Scott Temple from testifying in an official proceeding, in violation of 18 U.S.C. 1512 (c).
