Rabbi Manis Friedman
Chabad / Lubavitch
Let’s meet Rabbi Manis Friedman, notice the family resemblance to his brother?
Rabbi Manis Friedman is a Chabad Lubavitch Shiliach (emissary) and is the
dean of the Bais Chana Women’s International institute for Jewish Studies in
Minnesota; for girls with little to no prior Jewish education. Friedman has
ruffled many a feather over the years for his brash and impetuous comments
such as:
When a woman asked Rabbi Manis Friedman if she should tell her potential
husband about prior sexual abuse or rape Friedman stated; would you tell
your potential husband that you had diarrhea? It’s embarrassing, but it’s
nobody’s business. He told this woman that it was her responsibility to
“Get Over it, stop thinking about it, and simply ignore it; zay a mensch”
which translates from Yiddish as ‘act like a human being’.
Concerning the Israeli-Arab conflict, Friedman stated the moral way to fight
a war is to: “Destroy their holy sites. Kill men, women and children (and
cattle)”. Obviously, we all know that the Torah tells us that: any neighbor of
the Jewish people should be treated with respect and compassion.
On the Holocaust Rabbi Manis Friedman stated: “Who in fact died and who
remained alive had nothing to do with the Nazis,” and “not a single Jewish
child died because of the Nazis….. they died in their relationship with God.”
Concerning Friedmans view on Abuse:
Truly a shame that this Rabbi would minimize sexual abuse and rape and turn
it around on the victim.
Understandable why Rabbi Manis Friedman made these comments while
Chabad has been defending child abusers for many years now.
Rabbi Manis Friedman tries to trivialize and minimize the physical
psychological and spiritual damage caused to the victims of sexual abuse. It
is simply ignorance to say we are all "damaged" in the same manner as victims
of sexual abuse and it is the height of insensitivity to suggest the treatment for
a victim is just to perform additional mitzvahs (good deeds).
When we fail to acknowledge the gravity of the crime and its devastating
effect, we unwittingly assist the perpetrators as people justify their not coming
forward because "it’s not so bad". We fail in our duty to victims and potential
victims and hamper their recovery by failing them twice. The first time by not
eliminating the problem, the second time by not acknowledging their pain.
He is lucky he doesn't have to live with the daily memories of being molested
every night and morning.
Israeli-Arab conflict
In 2009, Manis Friedman essentially called for genocide against Palestinians
and other Arabs when responding in writing to a written question from
Moment Magazine. Friedman's response was published by Moment alongside
the responses of many other rabbis – none of whom used the question to call
for genocide.
Concerning the Holocaust
Holocaust survivors lodged complaints against what Rabbi Manis Friedman
stated with Chabad authorities and Rabbi Friedman has not been invited
back to speak and likely never will.
Even the Rebbe was very opposed to giving any reasons for the Shoah.
So therefore according to Manis Friedman, a person must conclude that the
Nazis were in fact, angels of God, sent by God to avenge himself upon Jews
(including children) who didn't pray 100% the way Chabad wanted them to?
NOTE: It has been brought to our attention that Manis Friedman has
publically apologized for the above statements. We publish this fact in the
spirit of fairness.
